Retribution, Revenge and Relevance

I woke up with a jerk, hearing the yelling. Who has come now, at this time of the dead, dark, cold night?”

I opened the old heavy teak door to peep out of my room. Servants were out of their quarters, rushing to light the lanterns; ceaseless flickers, licking the darkness. Looked like my daughter-in-law was already up. The old, precious, well-oiled grandfather clock struck two, loud and clear, leaving behind deep silence; it felt as if an eerie finality was slowly engulfing us.
